Cornus nuttallii ‘Monarch’ is a cultivar with quite a firm ascending growth habit. The leaves are more oblong than the species’, and in autumn these color into beautiful red and purple shades. The Cornus nuttallii ‘Monarch’’s young shoots attain a nice dark purple color before they lignify. The flowers are surrounded by 6-10 somewhat smaller bracts (4-7 for the regular Cornus nuttallii), and its flowering probability is good. The rest of its characteristics are equal to the Cornus Nuttallii.
