The 'Milky Way' was selected from seedlings of the Cornus kousa var. chinensis. The 'Milky Way's bracts are larger and it produces more flowers. The 'Milky Way' also flowers at a much younger age. The plant produces large fruit, considerably larger than the var. chinensis and the fruit are more numerous. Its autumn color is the same as the var chinensis'. Caring for 'Milky Way' is the same as the regular kousa, and the 'Milky Way' is winterproof.
