This cultivar was selected for its beuatifully yellow-edged leaves, These look much like Cornus florida 'Rainbow', except for the growth tops which are of a deeper red shade for 'Sunset'. 'Sunset's growth is, as is common for variegated plants, not as strong as the species’. Nevertheless, it is a healthy grower. Eventually, 'Sunset' will be a compact bush of about 2.5m, unless cut back. Its flowers appear around mid-April and are surrounded by 4 bright red bracts. The rest of its characteristics are equal to those of Cornus florida, with the note that its autumn colors, in combination with its yellow-edged leaves, make it a spectacular sight.
